The detachable transport
Why float the transport
By default the transport bar lives at the bottom of the main window. The Detach button at its far right pops the entire bar out into its own floating window. Two reasons you’d want that:
- Two monitors. Put the video on one screen, filling it, and keep the controls on the other screen next to your mouse.
- Maximum picture. With the transport floated off, the video area gets the full height of the main window — useful when you’re studying fine detail.
What the floating window is like
- It’s always on top, so it stays visible over other windows while you work.
- It’s resizable, and the controls scale with it — make it small to tuck in a corner, or larger for big buttons.
- The mode buttons ride along, sitting on the floating window’s top row, so you can still switch Lock/Unlock from there.
- It is the same transport bar, just relocated — everything works identically, and its buttons still change with the mode.

Bringing it back
Click Restore to main window on the floating window — or simply close the floating window — and the bar drops back into place at the bottom of the main window. Nothing is lost in the move.
It’s remembered between sessions
Window placement is remembered across launches, and that includes the transport:
- If you quit while the transport is floating, it comes back floating next time, at the same size and position.
- The main window, the floating transport window, and the status-log window each remember their own size and position, and restore to it on the next launch.
- A remembered position that’s now off-screen (a monitor was unplugged) is ignored in favour of a sensible default, so a window can never come back somewhere you can’t reach it.
